Barbara Bogart

About the Artist

Born and raised in California, Barbara lived in the South and the Midwest before discovering that Wyoming was her true home.  She has lived in Wyoming for more than 30 years and in Laramie since 2013. In her professional life -- as an academic, author, bookstore owner, museum director, historical researcher -- Barbara has always worked with words. But in 2010, she began to explore the world of visual images when she enrolled in a class with a gifted photographer and inspirational teacher, Aric Attas. Over the past dozen years, Barbara has been gradually learning to express herself visually. Much of her work is aimed at creating abstract images from ordinary elements of our everyday world. The images are about pattern and texture, color and form -- and about inspiring wonder at the beauty to be found in unexpected places. Barbara’s mantra as a photographer comes from poet Mary Oliver: "Pay attention.  Be amazed.  Tell about it." Her work has been shown at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, the Eau Gallie Art Center, and the Museum of Art Fort Collins. In Wyoming, it has appeared at AVA Community Arts Center in Gillette, Clay Paper Scissors Gallery in Cheyenne, Mystic Print Gallery in Pinedale, and ArtConnect in Laramie. She was a participating artist in Touchstone Laramie 2020, as well as Rendezvous: An Exhibition of Wyoming Art in 2017 and 2022.
